Mixtape Monday #22

We klearly have to start with this one, the 267th FACT mix put together by Mancunian Krystal Klear. Mix of the week!

Russian radio Headz FM recorded Africa Hitech‘s Moscow live-set from some weeks back. Get the two-part download while you can and also take a look at this tribute by DJ Rasskazov. And if that’s not enough, give Africa Hitech’s set at Sónar 2011 another spin.

Russian beatmaker Damscray and Sunlike are playing a selection of instrumental hip hop for Ukrainian Sashiradioblog. Available for download or stream.

While we’re still waiting for his new album, Ben Westbeech is playing some summer tunes on his mixtape for Vice Magazine.

New York’s Brennan Green has been playing on Beats in Space numerous times and remember these shows as some of the most entertaining ones. Plus he’s always playing good music, so grab his latest.

Tectonic’s Jack Sparrow has made a minimix for his booking agency, Seiji promotes his new record with his Seiji4 Promo Mix, and Eva Be is playing some house records for you.

Like every week, there are plenty of Boiler Room recordings worth grabbing, but Ossie‘s mix deserves special mentioning.

Mary Anne Hobbs keeps uploading those guestmixes for her new show to her Mixcloud account. Check FaltyDL, Machinedrum, Daedelus or the latest show with Teebs and Blawan.

And lastly, here’s one I was sent when my computer was dead. You might have heard of IG Culture’s new labels Holy Roller and HR2. The first releases on the former is the Manz at Work mixtape and features several unreleases remixes.

Weekly Bits 12/2009

We’ve already been blessed with quite some mixtapes this week, but there are some more to follow in this post.

What is good music? This website of the same name compiled tracks from Daz-I-Kue, Rich Medina, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Peven Everett, Erik Rico, King Britt and many others on their Spring Sampler 2009. What makes this one special is that it allows  you  not only to listen to the tracks online, but also to download all of them for free in MP3 format.

My favourite podcast this week came from Robotronic Radio. The show is called The Depot and in their eighth edition they not only feature Dorian Concept (including an interview), but also play a nice selection of electronic music from wonky hip hop to dubstep.

Which brings me to the more prominent Deviation show on BBC Radio 1, which also featured Dorian Concept. Benji talks with Dorian about his album When Planets Explode, his live performances and future plans. You can listen to that on the BBC iPlayer for the next couple of days or with some luck you can find a download of the show.

I know there are quite some Parra fans out there. For owners of an iPhone, there’s a free app called Parra Plays. That’s a collection of three casual games (including Memorize and a Simon clone) featuring Parra‘s artwork.

From Ben Westbeech comes this house mixtape, which he has posted via Twitter.  So did Alex Phountzi of Bugz in the Attic with the Greenmoney Showcase, a mix that’s  more on the broken tip.

Jazzanova Remix Contest Finalists

In the last few weeks, the guys from Jazzanova were busy going through more than 400 submissions to their remix contest. There is no winner yet, but the remixers have been narrowed down to 10 finalists. You can listen to them on Soundcloud.

“We were virtually blown away by the general quality of the remixes submitted. It was absolutely thrilling for all of us to listen to the variety of different approaches these remixers took to our music. And it took quite some time to sort out our personal favorites […] Besides, we agreed on releasing digitally on our label Sonar Kollektiv not only one but at least three of these remixes.” – Jürgen von Knoblauch/Jazzanova

If you haven’t had enough yet, you can still listen to the 410 remaining submissions over here.

Mar 3, 2009 The winners have been chosen, the other tracks have been removed from the player

Jazzanova Remix Contest

Jazzanova and Verve invite all the producers out there to participate in a remix contest to their upcoming single I Can See with Ben Westbeech on vocals. The winning entry will not only make it onto a digital release, but also receive a copy of Ableton Live and a SoundCloud pro account for a year – both companies being partners to the contest. If you are interested, download the track and its samples from SoundCloud (you will need an account!). Unfortunately neither deadline or legal modalities are mentioned anywhere.

Nov 18, 2008 Deadline appears to be December 15, 2008.

Jazzanova – I Can See

The guys from Jazzanova have posted a video to the second single from their new album Of All The Things on YouTube.

I Can See is among my favourites from the album (if not the favourite) and features Ben Westbeech on vocals. Unfortunately the video is nothing special, in fact it’s kinda stupid.

The single is not yet out, but it will feature remixes from Holy Ghost and Mark E.

Nov 6, 2008 Release date for Germany, Austria and Switzerland is December 2nd!
