Mixtape Monday #17

With Rednose Distrikt and Lukid we had some pretty strong mixtapes last week, not to mention the all new podcast. But time doesn’t stand still, so here’s the latest edition of Mixtape Mondays.

As you know, Mary Anne Hobbs‘ final show was broadcasted last Wednesday. Her guests on the show were Kode9 and Burial, their mixtape is available on Percussion Lab (full show here.)

Fact Magazine continues to put out quality mixes. Following the Four Tet podcast, they put up new ones by Baths and Zed Bias.

The international Worldwide show (as opposed to the UK show) had a guestmix by LA beatmistress Tokimonsta, you can grab the full show from Core News.

More music from Los Angeles comes on the new Low End Theory podcast, with mixes by Daddy Kev and (once again) Baths.

In the past, XLR8R presented a variety of UK based dubstep DJs, but for their latest podcast they had stateside duo Sepalcure.

British blog Allez Allez has a guestmix from Jimmy Edgar, recorded live at Berlin’s Berghain club. And while we’re at it, let me also mention their excellent Caribou mixtape from a while back!

Lastly, I want to mention some classic Brazilian music by the way of HVW8 and Red Rackem‘s guestmix for the OFFtrack radio show.

In studio with Free the Robots

Following his visit at Take’s studio, Low End Theory founder Daddy Kev meets up with Free the Robots at his studio in Santa Ana to discuss recording gear.

Wonder what all this sounds like? Check the Free the Robots album Ctrl Alt Delete, released some months back on Alpha Pup.

In studio with Take

Video of Los Angeles producer Take as he guides Daddy Kev through his studio in Hollywood.

Don’t forget that Take’s new album Only Mountain will be out next week, here’s a free track from it.

Mixtape Monday #7

Just when I finished last week’s post, Sonic Router posted an interview with Tokimonsta, accompanied by a nice mixtape. As you might know, she is currently touring through Europe, check out her MySpace for dates.

Speaking of dates, I want to make sure my London based readers don’t miss this Thursday’s concert of Build an Ark at Cargo. The lovely Beyondjazz crew dedicated their latest radio show to the Ark’s very own Carlos Niño, so don’t sleep on this.

More fresh beats out of Los Angeles come from Take aka Sweatson Klank (via YSK) and the Low End Theory podcast makes a return with Daddy Kev and Diabase on the decks.

Kirk Degiorgio, the man behind countless monikers including As One, The Beauty Room and Offworld, has put together a minimal set for Little White Earbuds. It contains many of Kirk’s more recent productions like ART-8 and Isomer Shift.

To give José James upcoming album some more spin, Gilles Peterson has put together a brand new podcast. You probably haven’t heard the latest 12-inch yet.

Hyperdub’s LV has mixed a selection of dubstep, hip-hop and even jazz for French magazine TSUGi.

Musique Large has two new treats for you, La Mixette 13 was mixed by Paul Pre and Vol 14. by Swede:art (hint).

As last, I give you two unusual mixes. First is the 100th FACT podcast put together by Norwegian disco-krautrocker Lindstrøm. Bodytonic invited Sven Weisemann to do a “classical-meats-electronic” mix for their podcast.

Low End Theory Podcast #1

Though I cannot provide much info, I consider this worthy news. Los Angeles based club Low End Theory lauched its new podcast with a mix from resident Daddy Kev and SAMIYAM. No tracklist, but a nice treat for all fans of BBC Experimental, Flying Lotus and anything else coming out of LA recently.
