It’s been a couple of month since Photek‘s contribution to the DJ-Kicks, but !K7 is not letting it slip into the forgotten past yet. Over the years it has become a tradition that each of DJ-Kicks mixes got an exclusive track and in Photek’s case that track was Levitation. More recently, those exclusives got the remix treatment and Altered Natives got the “opportunity to remix one of my musical heroes.”
The track will be out on 12-inch early next week, and it will feature the original version as well as another remix by Tom Bulwer. You can listen to a clip of the latter on his SoundCloud page.
Berlin’s !K7 gives one final taster to their new DJ-Kicks which drops tomorrow. It’s one of six exclusives on the mix and it is courtesy of Bristolian Addison Groove.
There hasn’t been any mentioning whether there will be any 12-inches alongside the new DJ-Kicks. Previous editions were accompanied by EPs with tracks exclusive to the mix. In any case, Scuba‘s addition to the series will be available on CD and 2-LP.
As mentioned the other day, the new DJ-Kicks will be put together by Hotflush founder Scuba. As a first taster, !K7 has posted this track off the mix CD.
Sounds a bit like a house rework of Before (After), but how’s that a bad thing? The Adrenalin EP will be out on Hotflush at an undisclosed date on September 26, 2011. The DJ-Kicks CD will be available starting October 25, 2011.
Our friends at Colectivo Futuro posted an article on Outliers Vol. 1, an interesting series of shortfilms on Iceland’s uncharted music with an soundtrack curated by Deru.
Now-Again has released an deluxe edition of Kashmere Stage Band’s Texas Thunder Soul 1968-1974. It not only contains the album on CD and 2LP, but also a DVD with documentaries and a making-of by B+ and Flying Lotus!
Georgia Anne Muldrow has been working on a new album, which won’t be out before November. However, you can listen to some of its track over at Animated Car Tunes.
Another new album comes from Aardvarck, who just released his third album on the Dutch Eat Concrete label. Get your copy from Rush Hour!
More good mixes are coming by the way of Rinse FM. Floating Points did a nice Brazil special, Bugz in the Attic’s Daz-I-Kue guests the Digital Soundboy show, and Simbad played a three hour set alongside Mosca.
We mentioned Dego‘s upcoming live-show in London before, but Europeans can catch him on several DJ gigs as well.
They say the age of the mixed CD has come to an end, and in the new age of the internet it’s easy to believe. There’s hardly a music publication without its own podcast and live-recordings from clubs around the world are only a click away. But I believe in the rule of exception and !K7’s DJ-KiCKS series is not only one of the first mix CD series, for me anyway, but also an exceptional one (again exceptions apply everywhere!)
Today, they’ve announced their latest addition from no other but Hotflush founder Paul Rose, better known for his music output under the names of Scuba and SCB. From his reputation as a DJ and his taste in selecting artists for his label, I have reason to believe he will continue the recent winning streak (I’m thinking of Apparat and MCDE) in the series. At least that’s what the tracklist suggests.01. Sigha – HF029B2

Scuba’s DJ-KiCKS will be in stores on October 25, 2011. While this hasn’t been confirmed, we expect it to drop in the usual trilogy of CD, LP and a 12-inch with exclusive music.
Over the last 15 years, !K7’s DJ-Kicks series has manifested its reputation as one of the best mix CDs. It’s no different with the latest installment by Apparat and yet it is different: it’s one of the best in the series.

As you might know, Sascha Ring programs a lot of his own patches in Max/MSP. In the video below, he talks a bit more about his ways of making music. You might also want to check out a second video, in which he speaks more about making the his DJ-Kicks mix.
Apparat’s DJ-Kicks is available since last week. As usual, you can get the mix on CD (Amazon) and digital (iTunes“), some of the tracks are also available on 2-LP. The exclusive Sayulita should be out on 12-inch next week!
Whenever there’s a new DJ-Kicks coming out, there are up to three options to choose from: the actual mixed CD, a 12-inch with an exclusive track from that mix, and an unmixed LP. I think it started with the DJ-Kicks from Hot Chip, that !K7 introduced a free download.
As mentioned yesterday, the latest in the series comes from Hyperdub founder Kode9 and you can now download the dub version of his exclusive track.
June 22nd is the day, you should be able to get your hands on the Kode9 DJ-Kicks.
