Just a quick fix of mixtapes I enjoyed over the last couple of weeks.
Following Prefuse73’s XLR8R podcast, he and his Sons of the Morning-partner Teebs put together another one for Self-Titled magazine.
When I’m not listening to the Hessle Audio radio show on Rinse.fm, I’m more than happy to track down other mixes by Ben UFO and company. The Essential Mix is still a big deal and—annoying as Pete Tong’s flat introductions are—you might want to grab this new one featuring Ben.
Safe House USA added the fourth edition of their Stay the Night series and it’s been nicely put together by Night Slug’s Girl Unit. Meanwhile, Fantastic Mr Fox did that for oki-ni.
If you heard that new track by Burial and Four Tet, you might want to download the Rinse show were the rip is taken from.
With all the hype about yet-another Grand Theft Auto, I’m sure you listened to Flylo FM already. Otherwise, here you go!
And lastly, I’d like to sneak my revised version of last year’s Colectivo Futuro podcast. Music for autumn!
Manchester’s Fantastic Mr Fox returns to Black Acre with a modern-edge rendition of a vocal house track. The Trap is one of two tracks from his forthcoming EP on the label, the pre-order is available from Chemical Record. In other news, Mr Fox also announced he started working on his debut album, be sure we’ll keep you in touch about that as well!
Black Acre is a label to have an eye (and ear) on, otherwise you’d miss out on a lot of good music from a diverse scene of underground producers. Last year’s albums by Blue Daisy or Hyetal have found many fans, and there’s no need to argue about the talents that Fantastic Mr Fox, Lukid, DZA or 1000names are. You find a bit of all that on the label’s new Rebuilds compilation.
01. Fantastic Mr Fox – Sketches (SBTRKT remix)
02. Hyetal – Diamond Islands (Boddika remix)
03. Blue Daisy & Anneka – Raindrops (John Talabot’s Cosmic rework)
04. Hyetal – Phoenix (Fantastic Mr Fox remix)
05. Memotone – Multicolour (Lukid remix)
06. 1000names – Pocket Calculator (Lynx & Hellrazor)
07. DZA – Bullseye (feat Mujuice & Non – Dizz1 remix)
08. Hyetal – Searchlight (Stay+)
09. Blue Daisy & Anneka – Blood Petal Roses (Sunken Foal remix)
10. Von D – Truth (Tes La Rok remix)
Many of these tracks have so far been available on vinyl only, so make sure not to miss it if you don’t collect records. For me, the Phoenix Remix (listen below) makes it worth buying alone.
You can buy Black Acre presets Rebuilds from fine places such as Boomkat, Bleep – or iTunes.
Not sure where I heard this before, but it definitely sounds familiar. The track is taken from the forthcoming Fantastic Mr Fox EP on Black Acre, the same label that brought us some stunning releases from Kelpe, Blue Daisy and of course Hyetal.
A. Pascal’s Chorus feat. Alby Daniels
B. Speak Nuh
C. San’en feat. Alby Daniels
D. Yesterdays Fall feat. Alby Daniels
Looks like this one will be out on rather unusual 2×10-inch, a format I’m actually quite fond of. Pre-orders are available from various online stores, but no need to hurry as the record won’t be out before June 4, 2012!
Chances are you already heard the latest FACT Magazine podcast, a live recording of Jamie xx & Oneman. The two were playing back to back at what appears to be the hottest club in the UK right now: London’s Boiler Room. Expect a selection from disco and boogie to garage reworks of nineties pop-dancefloor tunes. A bit crazy, but really nice.
Next up we got last week’s Dummy Mix from Dutch producer 2562, in which he plays new music he’s “feeling from all over the place.” Also available from his SoundCloud page, just in case you feel you need to press the +fav button.
Our podcast contributor Kelpe did a guestmix for Tom Ravencroft’s show on 6 Music show last month. If you missed that one, you can grab the download off SoundCloud.
Paul Pre, another contributor to our podcast series, will be playing at this year’s Outlook Festival in Croatia. To promote himself and the event, he put a new mix on Mixcloud.
For oki-ni, dubstep producer Martyn did a mix “as if it were a spring afternoon radio show, with a few jingles and music from across the board”, including Carl Craig, Tom Tom Club, Austin Peralta and Caribou.
I got some more bass music for you released in the last couple of weeks: SBTRKT‘s recent show on Rinse FM (direct link), the Throwing Snow guestmix for Get Me, and Fantastic Mr Fox did one for The Guardian.
We’re gonna end this as we started, with another recording from the Boiler Room by Kutmah.
Alright, so it’s Tuesday already, but I don’t think you’d want to wait another week for a proper Mixtape Monday.
I’ve been waiting a long time for a new Isolée album. Now that it’s finally out, he’s been doing some mixes to spread the word. Like the all new Resident Advisor podcast or the guestmix for Beats in Space from some weeks back.
Speaking of Beats in Space, I also have to recommend their latest show which features this guestmix by DMX Krew.
I wonder sometimes why some blogs refuse to set trackbacks. They’re not only the foundation on which all social networking is based on, they’re also a great way to discover great related content. Like these mixtapes by Domu that just surfaced. Whether previously unreleased or not, you already know he’s one of the best DJs in recent years.
More recommended mixes include the all new URB podcast put together by Lukid, Nocow’s guest mix for Gimme5, or this minimix by Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Update The new XLR8R podcast just came in and it was put together by another favourite of ours: London based producer Oriol – don’t sleep!
