I first heard the name of Moxie when she was Benji B’s invisible (or inaudible) sidekick on his show many years ago. That said, I don’t even know if she’s still on the job, since the heydays of the show are long over (for me anyway!) What I do know instead is her own regular show on NTS Live.
Today, she released a free compilation featuring music of some of her favourite artists, including the likes of Ikonika, Lokiboi, Kowton, SCNTST and more. Not one of terrible 50 track compilations, this feels more like some real selection has been done.
Check it out for yourself, it’s a free download!
Oh, we’re early with our weekend mixtapes selection, but there have been quite a few worthy ones this week.
Now that the new album by Space Dimension Controller is finally out, the Belfast-based producer has put together a mix for ClashMusic. And check out this interview while you’re at it.
Ukrainian deep house producer Vakula spent some time in London and played some records at Boiler Room, as well as on Alexander Nut’s Rinse.fm show (direct link!) And if that wasn’t enough, here’s a third one recorded after we first posted this article.

Also, you might be interest in Om Unit‘s guestmix for Solid Steel, a new one from Pixelord, and a minimix of unreleased Ital Tek tunes.
Just added: new Truants podcast mixed by Samoyed, Kutmah’s all Sa-Ra mix, and Hepcat Radio with special guest Ikonika
As the weekend is about to kick off, the internet has a very special selection of mixtapes this week. Let’s have a look at them.
With his much anticipated third album Nebula Dance finally in stores, Brighton’s Ital Tek is about to tour the U.S. in the coming weeks. He also did a mixtape for Self-titled Mag and picked his 10 favourite footwork tracks for Dummy.
Another album to look out for is Kid Kanevil and Daisuke Tanabe’s Kidsuke, which will be out on November 2nd. In the meantime, check out their mixtape for Finest Ego’s Monthly Mix.
Next up, we got a triplet of uptempo mixes: London’s xxxy got to play a show on Russian radio Follow Me Studio, Scuba showcases lots of new Hotflush material on his mix for FACT Magazine, and you can stream Objekt‘s 2-hour mix from this year’s Dimension Festival.
Boiler Room invited Berlin’s Dixon & Âme to play at their ADE party the other day, that’s 4 hours in the mix!
Hyperdub’s first lady Ikonika did a guestmix for Rob Booth’s Electronic Explorations and she included a previously unheard remix of hers.
Legendary Philadelphia DJ and producer King Britt was approached by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage “to curate a show on Afrofuturism and its influences on me and my compositional work.”
Hot on the heels of his new single on Brainfeeder, London’s Lapalux stopped by at Los Angeles’ KCRW to do a mini mix.
The oldie of the week comes from Jneiro Jarel, who posted his Houston We Have A Solution Mix made in 2005 (careful, it’s a Facebook link!)
And lastly, let us remind you we had two new mixes out ourselves: Lokiboi contributed to our own podcast series, and Tetsuo did a mix for Colectivo Futuro.
I don’t recall when I was last impressed by the look at the tracklist alone, but seeing Dabrye, Ikonika, Om Unit and Kid Kanevil remixing Manchester’s Illum Sphere is truly impressive. A2. An Old Escape (Dabrye Remix)

Released on Fat City, you can pick up Illum Sphere Remixed from Boomkat (is the sleeve really that nice?), Juno or Bleep. A digital release is available as well!

Every now and then, the guys at Scion A/V get to interview some of my favourite artists. In one of their latest, they talk to Hyperdub’s very own Ikonika, who’s album Contact, Love, Want, Have will be remembered in many top 10 lists at the end of the year.

Despite the ongoing World Cup, I think it’s time to revive that old fashion of weekly bits again.
With Form, producer AFTA-1 presents his latest art project: 100 cassettes with all new music, each wrapped in 1/100th piece of a painting. And if you threw your last walkman away 15 years ago, you can get a digital version as well!
Mixtape-wise, I was mostly listening to the latest Beats in Space show with Kompakt head Michael Mayer (and his set from Sunday Best) or James Holden’s guestmix for the XLR8R Podcast. You might also be interested in this free Jeremiah Jae mixtape or the Kirk Degiorgio podcast for Bleep43
New in stores are the Break Off EP by SBTRKT & Sampha with two tracks first heard on their Worldwide appearance, a picture disc (!) by Jimmy Edgar with a nice Kyle Hall remix, or a new one from Martyn on Ostgut Ton. You might also want to check out the debut album from Swede:art, now available on CD and download.
Recommended free tracks come from Kelpe, fLako and Greymatter.
If you’re into photography, have a look at these portraits by Morgan O’Donovan. He’s had the likes of SBTRKT, Pariah, Brackles, Sinden or Greenmoney in front of his camera.
A bit older, but never mentioned: Flying Lotus interviews Ikonika, SBTRKT mix for Benji B.
Missed a couple of good mixtapes recently, here is a selection of bass-heavy material.
Following up her album Contact, Love, Want, Have, Ikonika returns with an exclusive mix for the XLR8R Podcast. In the next couple of weeks, you can catch Ikonika touring North America.
I keep recommending to subscribe to the LuckyMe podcasts. If you haven’t yet, you just missed mixes from James Pants, Hyetal, Optimo and many others. Get them all here!

There were quite a lot of mixtapes this week worth mentioning, so rather than waiting for Monday I’m posting them just in time for the weekend.
Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet has joined Gilles Peterson to record a special podcast in honor of Steve Reid, who passed away recently. Kieran and Steve recorded several albums together, so there are some anecdotes to tell and of course lots of music from Steve.
Another mix full of classics comes from my fellow countryman DJ Nuts, who plays a selection of music from the legendary Arthur Verocai. Take this as a reminder to cop Mochilla’s Timeless DVD box-set.
The latest Resident Advisor podcast features a mix from Dutch dubstep producer Dave Huismans, better known as 2562 or A Made Up Sound.
From the same sonic territories comes Ikonika‘s mix recorded at Hoya Hoya‘s second anniversary.
London’s Warm Music presents another mix from I:Cube (Versatile), as usual you can get it from the SoundCloud page.
And lastly, you should check out the latest Hep Cat Radio show which has a mix from Mweslee.
Since South African producer Culoe de Song attended last year’s RBMA in Barcelona, he has been traded as one of the most promising talents among house enthusiasts. Last week, Berlin’s Innervision label has put out his latest 12-inch, accompanied by a download-only track. Culoe also contributed a mix to Resident Advisor‘s podcast series, proving that he’s also got talent as a DJ. More mixes can be found on this Brownswood thread.
If you fancy darker sounds, Vice Magazine features a mixtape from Hyperdub producing artist Ikonika. Lots of dubstep, mostly from Hyperdub and some of her own productions.
Oh, I haven’t really mentioned the brandnew nutriot shirts! You can order them already from Spreadshirt, an article on the designer will follow soon.
