Earlier this week, the participants of the Red Bull Music Academy 2010 were chosen. Among the lucky winners is L.A.’s incredibly talented Jennifer Lee, better known as TOKiMONSTA. In order to celebrate, Brainfeeder is giving away one of her tracks, another new remix can be found on Jenn’s SoundCloud page.
More news from Brainfeeder made the round this week, label founder Flying Lotus is supposed to do a collaboration with UK’s Burial. I remember quite some Burial related announcements from the past that never took off, but in this case there’s even something to listen to.
The success story of Mayer Hawthorne goes on, this time the Rolling Stone magazine is giving him a feature. At the same time, Mayer has released his new single Green Eyed Love with remixes from Waajeed and Classixx, a new video is also available.
I’ve seen quite some superlatives for the 50th anniversary of Kind of Blue, but Columbia Records takes the cake with its latest Miles Davis box set. On November 24th, they release The Complete Columbia Album Collection on 70 CDs and one DVD. It will be exclusively available on Amazon.
Legendary disc jockey Greg Wilson finally got himself an account on SoundCloud and gives away a bunch of edits and mash-ups.
The nice people of Warm are talking to New York DJ and radio-host Tim Sweeney, who is looking back at ten years of running Beats In Space and will soon launch a label by the same name.
In other news, you might also want to check out this skateboard by Jeff Mill’s Axis Records, a new video by Lefto featuring Dorian Concept and Lukid, or the latest podcast from MUTEK mixed by French re-edit master Pilooski.
My favourite track this week actually dates back to 2007, but it was posted by the Red Bull Music Academy only a couple of days ago. It comes from Mark Pritchard‘s latest project Africa Hi Tec, for which he teamed up with singer Steve Spacek. If I remember correctly, an album is supposed to follow early next year, the track Too Late definitely makes appetite for more.
After having discovered MUTEK’s podcast series, I had a look at their other offerings and came across sets from Kode 9 & Spaceape, Henrik Schwarz, Dave Aju or Akufen. There should be something in for all of you.
Paul White‘s debut album is now available for your listening pleasure, a digital download
should follow soon is available now. The official date for the album (all formats) is June 8th.
One of my favourite labels, Holland’s Kindred Spirits, have updated their website. You can finally listen to all their releases online and order them directly from the label. However, it seems that their radioshow is no longer available.
Before I forget about it, here is another nice mixtape from Mark E. Havn’t really listened to it yet, but I know there are a lot of fans out there!
The MUTEK podcasts always feature some great mixes from past events, only recently they published an older one from Martyn. Recorded back in 2008, it features his usual blend of dubstep and techno (expect some Inner City!) and already some material from his recent debut album Great Lengths.
More recently, Martyn has been featured on Benji B’s Deviation show. Back in April, Rob da Bank also had a guestmix from the man. Happy downloading!
May 29, 2009 Martyn has posted three mixes on his blog, including those for Gilles Peterson and Rob da Bank.
