So, I haven’t been posting anything as of lately and it might in fact go on like this for a little more. Thought I through in a selection of mixtapes that popped up during last week.
It was only a question of time until the big ones asked Vakula for one of his rare mixtapes. The Ukrainian house producer put together a selection of his tracks for Resident Advisor and answered some of their questions.
This Wednesday, Ninja Tune’s Slugabed joins Thundercat and Floating Points for a show at London’s Fabric. On the occasion, he did a mix to promote the night.
Berlin-based Machinedrum did a mix for Dummy Magazine last week. If you’re into the records he’s playing, I can also recommend Nightwave‘s podcast by Dazed Digital and Mike Paradina’s personal selection of footwork influenced tracks for RBMA Radio.
It was back in April when Manchester-based Krystal Klear graced Benji B with a guestmix. Unless you downloaded this one before, you can listen to it on SoundCloud and leave some direct feedback on this excellent mix.
And lastly, let me mention these older mixtapes I came across: Blawan’s mix at Boiler Room, Deadbeat for Inverted Audio, and Recloose‘s 2002 guestmix for Gilles Peterson.

With his self-titled debut album finally in stores, here’s a music video for SBTRKT‘s single featuring Yukimi Nagano
Another much anticipated album is Zomby‘s forthcoming Dedication. Two of its tracks are available now on a highly limited 7-inch and one of them is a free download.
Drexciya‘s DJ Stingray contributes to Electronic Explorations second Legends Guest Mix Series, playing a selection fast paced techno.
Another Detroit legend, Planet E founder Carl Craig, has been interviewed by We Love Music. The video also features comments by the likes of Derrick May, Paul Woolford and The Mole.
Spain’s 2011 Sónar festival came to an end, RBMA Radio has caught some of the live-sets including these from Teebs, Illum Sphere, Cosmin TRG or The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble. BBC Radio 1 aired Scuba’s set on this week’s Essential Mix, and Benji B has even more.
I got two more mixtapes for you: DJ Andy Smith’s never released Document 4 and this Groove Merchants radioshow with a guestmix from Mount Kimbie.
Lastly, here’s the sad story of Andy Baio, who recently got sued by Kind of Blue cover photographer Jay Maisel for “using” his picture for his Kind of Bloop project.
It’s been a while, so let me just update on a couple of mixes I’ve enjoyed recently.
On the occasion of having a new release out, Dorian Concept was featured on this Austrian radioshow. And they even talk in English over some of Dorian’s favourites and his new material.
Another huge favourite comes from DJ Nuts, who joined Gilles Peterson for one of his podcast sessions. Over an hour of quality Brazilian music!
It seems I missed out on a couple of recent Hotflush podcasts, but the latest comes from Twisted and it’s a recommended download.

Got some good mixtapes piled up, just the right thing you might be looking for in time for the weekend.
Chances are you already heard about the latest Rinse FM, likely because it has been the source of snippets from the latest 12-inch by Four Tet, Burial and Thom York. The show was a back to back mix by Floating Points and Four Tet and it’s available for download.
Next up, we recommend Photek‘s Fireside Chat on RBMA Radio, which is also available from unofficial sources.
We had some Om Unit news this week already, but öet us also mention his recent mixes for Munich Boiler and Glasgow’s LuckyMe label collective.
Kelpe has a new mixtape available and as usual it’s a killer selection of beats and obscure music. Let’s also remind you of the guestmix he’s done for us.
While still listening to Appleblim‘s recent contribution to the Fabric promo mixes, there’s a new one to recommend. This time it’s Eglo’s Alexander Nut on the decks.
For those in love with Blawan‘s mix for FACT Magazine, we also got this recording from Boiler Room. And don’t forget, his new 12-inch is out now on R&S Records.
Gilles Peterson plays at a Japan relief party in London tonight. For those that can’t make it, he’s got a mixtape up for stream or download.
And lastly, let us mention another one from Caribou that became available again, this time mix for Rough Trade made last year.
We already mentioned mixes from Legowelt, Ahu, 8bitch and Black & Blue in yesterday’s weekly bits, today we already got some more to share.
It’s Valentine’s Day and like every year, Hudson Mohawke has put together a special tape for the occasion. Another mix for lovers comes from Krystal Klear, titled Everything is Shit….Except You Love.
With Swim, Canada’s Caribou delivered an album that found itself in many best-of lists by the end of last year. For Resident Advisor, main man Dan Snaith made a contribution to their podcast series.
Earlier this month, Toro Y Moi delivered a mix for FACT Magazine and it’s been a personal favourite of mine over the weekend. Watch out for the new album coming out later this month!
More mixes come from New York based Brendon Moeller, who made a mix for Field Records. Lone has recorded a stream-only mix to promote his show at this year’s Bloc Weekend.
And lastly, we’re revisiting Silkie‘s mix for RBMA Radio, originally aired in 2009.

As Carl Craig’s Planet E label has finally landed on SoundCloud, there are some older mixtapes for you to listen to. My favourite is this Paperclip People live-set from 1998, recorded at San Francisco’s Fever. Also available is this mix for the Compost Radio Show, in which Carl plays some older music that inspired him. Unfortunately, these mixes are not officially available for download and can only be listened to through the SoundCloud page.
Just today, Bodytonic has put out their latest podcast and of course it comes from no other than Carl Craig! It features the likes of Donald Byrd, Tribe, Detroit Experiment, Alice Coltrane or Bill Laswell – actually Carl announces the tracks he is playing!
