Black Quartz Mixtape #001

On this very day, ten years ago, the first article on this blog was posted. And while the blog is no more, Nutriot lives on as a record label. In order to celebrate, we’re launching a new series of mixtapes called “Black Quartz”. Unlimited stream and limited download for all subscribers!

Christoph El Truento – Gibbon Saw (Reboot Joy Confession’s Break Away Effort)

If you follow our doings on social media, you might already be aware of our latest release: On September 2nd, we put out the second vinyl release on Nutriot Recordings, two remixes taken from Christoph El Truento’s 2015 long-player «a series of oopsie daisies and various other flora». One of the tracks on this 7-inch comes from The Reboot Joy Confession, former contributor to our podcast series, and a man whose great taste in music reflects in his own productions.

For the next couple of weeks, Christoph El Truento’s «vs» is exclusively available from our Bandcamp store on black vinyl with screen-printed sleeves, as well as various digital formats.

Weekend Mixtapes #45

The Reboot Joy Confession
May 22, 2014 would have been the day Sun Ra turned 100 years old. The likes of Mr Beatnick, The Reboot Joy Confession, DJ Aardvarck, and Philadelphia icon King Britt.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to do something different for this Solid Steel mix and I decided to approach the mix as if I was ‘back from a good night out’ and winding down with some late night weird selections from my vinyl collection”, says Bristol’s Pinch about his guestmix for the show.

Bugz in the Attic took over the Rinse airwaves for a rare Bank Holiday special. Then again, much more has been going on in the last couple of weeks, as some former Bugz members started their new label Ten50 Records.

My favourite radio show at this moment clearly is the latest Hessle Audio, which is available now on the Rinse FM podcast channel (direct link) for download.

And there are more radio shows worth checking out:
Lukid on NTS Live
Tom Trago on Beats in Space
Four Tet & Joe Goddard on NTS Live
Floating Points & Sadar Bahar on NTS Live
Martyn & Guest on NTS Live

Have a nice weekend, everybody!

Weekend Mixtapes #29

Oh, we’re early with our weekend mixtapes selection, but there have been quite a few worthy ones this week.

Now that the new album by Space Dimension Controller is finally out, the Belfast-based producer has put together a mix for ClashMusic. And check out this interview while you’re at it.

Ukrainian deep house producer Vakula spent some time in London and played some records at Boiler Room, as well as on Alexander Nut’s show (direct link!) And if that wasn’t enough, here’s a third one recorded after we first posted this article.

One of music’s best-kept secrets and contributor to our own podcast series, The Reboot Joy Confession, has put together a new mix for the Bebop Rodeo podcast.

Berlin-based Dutchman 2562 (aka A Made Up Sound) hardly gives away mixes, but his set from Amsterdam’s 5 Days Off festival is now available.

Also, you might be interest in Om Unit‘s guestmix for Solid Steel, a new one from Pixelord, and a minimix of unreleased Ital Tek tunes.

Just added: new Truants podcast mixed by Samoyed, Kutmah’s all Sa-Ra mix, and Hepcat Radio with special guest Ikonika

Ogris Debris – Next Life

Not long after their last release by Sixtus Preiss, Viennese label Affine Records is already preparing its next one. The new EP comes from Ogris Debris, a duo formed by Daniel Kohlmeigner and Gregor Ladenhauf, occasional favourites on Gilles Peterson’s playlists. For me the highlights are both remixes, provided by The Reboot Joy Confession (listen above) and the already mentioned Sixtus Preiss.01. Next Life
02. Next Life (Radio Edit)*
03. Next Life (The Reboot Joy Confession´s Blodge Remake)
04. Around Here
05. Around Here (Sixtus Preiss Remix)
06. Around Here (Slowjam)*

* digital only The vinyl is already up for pre-order on the Affine website. You should be able to pick it up at your favourite record store starting December 6 November 26, 2012.

November 25, 2012 Also, don’t sleep on the other remix by Sixtus Preiss

Volume 13 – mixed by The Reboot Joy Confession

It feels weird when you talk to a someone who wouldn’t reveal much about himself, but then I understand an artist’s motive to speak only through the music, as it lets one listen without prejudice. Our latest podcast comes from such an individual: The Reboot Joy Confession. Following several releases on Soulphiction’s Philpot Records, he recently released his debut album Absolute III Way Harmonious Enterprise on the same label. The album is one of the few these days that’s not afraid to cross boundaries, and I recommend to anyone who’s not afraid to discover something new or different.

As for the mix, it’s not as exclusive as we usually keep it. It’s been aired on radio a couple of weeks ago, but to extend the circle of listeners we got the permission to make it part of our podcast series.

Listen | Download | Subscribe (iTunes)no tracklist, sorry

You can listen to parts of the album on SoundCloud, as well as to some of his other music. There’s also a Facebook page, if you’re down with that.

And lastly, here are some place where you can buy the album: Rush Hour, Decks, Juno, or HHV (a digital release is expected to follow!)

The Reboot Joy Confession Album Teaser

I love when things develop like this. One and a half years ago, I accidently came across the debut EP from The Reboot Joy Confession, a record that ended up in a give-away, and now (after a second EP) there’s a longplayer coming out in May on Philpot Records.

The record is titled “Absolute III Way Harmonious Enterprise“, holds 15 tracks and skits that boundlessly shift from house to hip hop and back again. It’s one of those album you have to listen to as a whole and I always had a soft spot for that. Recommended to you, my friend!

March 20, 2012 A second teaser is now available on SoundCloud…

April 9, 2012 …and a third one!

Weekly Bits 5/2012

As everybody knows by now, D’Angelo is back and has played a couple of concerts in Europe. First this video from Stockholm showed up, then another one recorded in Amsterdam. If you missed all of this, Sam Champ and Okayplayer put together this mix.

I’m not much a compilation guy in general, but of course there’s an exception for everything. This month there’ll be two I’m very much looking forward to: The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol. 2 and Trevor Jackson’s Metal Dance. There’s a nice video interview of Trevor talking about design, his first musical attempts and memories of clubbing in 1980s London.

Following the recent Unreleased, Alternate Versions and Demos by Domu, the former broken beat innovator set up a YouTube channel where you can listen to more of his early work (some of it made on the Amiga.)

In September 2010, I sported the debut release by The Reboot Joy Confession. This year his debut album will see a release on Philpot Records and here’s a little teaser.

One of the more interesting remix collaborations in a while comes from Lindstrøm and Todd Rundgren. You can listen to Todd’s remix (!) over at Rolling Stone.

Dollar Mambo – Horns Hall (RJC’s 1st Take)

Back in November, we gave away some copies of Reboot Joy Confession‘s debut 12-inch on Philpot Records. Since then, the anonymous producer released a follow-up and contributed to the Philpot 50 compilation.

His latest is this remix for Dollar Mambo’s Horns Hall on Nice Try, a raw and forward moving dancefloor smasher.

The 12-inch came out last week, a digital release is set to follow end of August. Looks like Decks is the only place you can get this right now.

Philpot Records 50

Stuttgart’s Philpot Records celebrates its 50th release with tracks from Move D, Juju & Jordash, The Reboot Joy Confession, Roman Rauch & Bartellow, Ike and Tim Toh.

A1. Tim Toh – Floral
A2. Ike – Throwbackmusic ’94
B1. Roman Rauch – Lemme Get There (feat. Bartellow)
B2. Tom Ellis – New Mode
C1. The Reboot Joy Confession – O
C2. Juju & Jordash – Tanglefoot
D1. Move D – Untitled Detroit

Vinyl-only and limited to only 250 copies, you better be quick on this one. I’ve spotted copies over at Juno, Rush Hour and Clone.

The Reboot Joy Confession Give-Away

Remember the debut release by The Reboot Joy Confession I was sporting a couple of weeks ago? A friend of mine spread the rumour that he was coming to São Paulo, so I was hoping to get in contact with the mysterious producer. Unfortunately, the meeting never took place, as I was in the UK at the time.

The Reboot Joy Confession

However, I have managed to get two copies of the mentioned EP, which was released on Soulphiction’s Philpot imprint – and they might be yours!

All you need to do is sign-up for the newsletter and trust your luck. Twitter users can also click here to retweet this, but you have to make sure you follow me – otherwise I won’t be able to notify the winner.

Speaking of which, the winners will be drawn on December 1st and notified the same day. Until then you can listen to the entire release on SoundCloud!

The Reboot Joy Confession – Spirit of the Planets

The Reboot Joy Confession - Spirit of the Planet

Label Artwork

I don’t check the house tab as often as I used to, but when I run across records like this, I wonder what other goodies I’m missing. This is the debut release by The Reboot Joy Confession on Soulphiction’s Philpot label.

Unfortunately, I can’t even tell you much about the artist (or artists?) as he prefers to remain anonymous. What I can tell you is this: on the a-side you will find a collaboration with the legendary Dwight Trible, known for his vocal contributions to the Pharoah Sanders Quartet or Build An Ark among others. Together they come up with a freeform electronic piece, a spiritual journey made of synthesizers, flutes and Dwight’s chanting, held together only by a loose hip-hop beat. The flipside comes with two more house-oriented tracks, a delight for fans of KDJ and the likes.

Spirit of the Planets is available now, I’ve spotted copies at Rush Hour and Juno Records, Boomkat also has digital formats available.

November 14, 2010 I have two copies to give-away, you can enter the competition here!
