As heard on last week’s Benji B radio show, Anthony Naples has a new record coming out on his own Proibito label. The track you can hear above instantly caught my attention and I’m pleased to hear, that the full EP is now available for pre-order. Titled “Smacks”, the four tracks were made in four different cities, “one in NYC, one in Miami, one in Tokyo, and one in Berlin.”
Proibito 14 (13 was skipped for bad luck) and I’m sure it will sell out fast. Keep your eyes peeled.
Lukid keeps the “old ivories tinkling”, with this piano music mixtape for Blowing Up The Workshop. Debussy, Ravel, Cage and everything you’ll be looking for on a Sunday.
Not only that the new Solid Steel website is nothing but a disaster in user experience, it appears their mixes are no longer available for download. Fortunately, there’s still the Mixcloud option to listen to their mixes, which makes it more bearable. This week, you can listen to mixes from Anthony Naples (above) and Four Tet.
Stones Throw also has a bit of a weird podcast policy, since there’s no way of listening without iTunes. However, I suggest you give latest episode a try, since it was compiled by the label’s very own Mndsgn.
And since we like to end the selection with and oldie, here’s a Kemistry & Storm mixtape, originally recorded in 1995.
Anthony released his debut album Body Pill this week, a record I haven’t listened to enough to make up my mind yet. What I did enjoy tremendously is his guestmix for the Resident Advisor podcast series. Music from Led Zeppelin, Tim Hecker, Terry Riley, into a proper selection of house and techno.
Press play and read the interview on the RA website, where you can also grab the download.
Following an earlier snippet, Anthony Naples’ Proibito label shared a full track from the forthcoming new EP by Huerco S., the New York-based producer responsible for one of my favourite albums of last year. There’s still no release date provided for EP called A Verdigris Reader, but I would say the preview indicates an imminent release. Keep your eyes peeled for this one!
August 3, 2014 As mentioned in the comments, the EP is already available. I spotted copies at Bleep, Hardwax and Honest Jon’s.
Oh, and we have another one from The Trilogy Tapes we would like to announce today, for Anthony Naples releases his follow-up to last year’s El Portal on the label. You can stream all of the four tracks in the player above before making up your mind. The opener “Perro” has been a personal favourite ever since I heard it on the Hessle Audio show and I can’t wait to pick up my personal copy. Available from the TTT store and all good record stores as of July 20th.
