And to finish off this week’s selection, here’s a true diamond: check out this massive Rhythm & Sound DJ-set recorded in Detroit back in 2006 (and don’t let those Windows sounds drive you crazy, unfortunately they’re part of the recording!)
From one of my favourite producers, French I:Cube, comes this edit he recently discovered in the depths of his harddrive.
Thelma Houston x Double Fantasy x I:Cube = Children Of The Universe (I:Cube Edit).. that’s the only info available on the tune, which you might want to download as well.
There were quite a lot of mixtapes this week worth mentioning, so rather than waiting for Monday I’m posting them just in time for the weekend.
Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet has joined Gilles Peterson to record a special podcast in honor of Steve Reid, who passed away recently. Kieran and Steve recorded several albums together, so there are some anecdotes to tell and of course lots of music from Steve.
Another mix full of classics comes from my fellow countryman DJ Nuts, who plays a selection of music from the legendary Arthur Verocai. Take this as a reminder to cop Mochilla’s Timeless DVD box-set.
The latest Resident Advisor podcast features a mix from Dutch dubstep producer Dave Huismans, better known as 2562 or A Made Up Sound.
From the same sonic territories comes Ikonika‘s mix recorded at Hoya Hoya‘s second anniversary.
London’s Warm Music presents another mix from I:Cube (Versatile), as usual you can get it from the SoundCloud page.
And lastly, you should check out the latest Hep Cat Radio show which has a mix from Mweslee.
It’s been quite a while since Nicolas Chaix has released his last album. Whether you count in his live LP or not, something between four and seven years have passed already. Being a huge fan of both his work as solo-artist and Château Flight I was delighted to hear about his latest release.A1. Falling
B1. Un Dimanche Sans Fin
B2. Operation Hypnosis
So again it’s not an album, but some great music nevertheless. Sounds a bit like the improvisations from the (stellar!) Planetarium sessions matured into full-grown tracks. Wouldn’t mind to hear some more of that.
The Falling EP is already available from his label Versatile, the vinyl and the MP3s are both available from Juno.
Other websites have their Follow Friday, here you get a Mixtape Monday every now and then. That’s basically a selection of mixtapes I posted on Twitter before, sometimes more than that.
Let’s start the third edition with a triplet from Bugz in the Attic. Their all new remix collection Got the Bug 2 will be out through BBE on October 5, in the meantime you can listen to the promo mix. Another new mix is their Carnival Spesh podcast for Vulive together with Simbad. And the latest podcast offering from Daz-I-Kue is also available, it goes by the name of Vinyl Love Unplugged Vol. 1.
Low End Theory offers a new podcast mixed by Gaslamp Killer and Mary Anne Hobbs. If you need more of this sound, I recommend downloading TOKiMONSTA’s mix for Musique Large.
I mentioned 2562’s new album just yesterday, today FACT Magazine delivers a new mix by the man. A journey from house and techno towards more dubby territory.
London-based producer Mr. Beatnick was featured on Mary Anne Hobbs’ Experimental some weeks back. That guestmix is now available for download on his SoundCloud page.
Versatile Records‘ I:Cube played at Sunday Best back in July, in case you didn’t grab his set already do it now!
The last mix comes from Ubeat‘s Onur Engin, who also runs Monotape Radio. For over 45 minutes he blends a selection of Turkish jazz music, you can listen to it here (download
will follow is here).
