Following the release of the highly anticipated Mark Pritchard album “Under The Sun”, the man himself stepped up for a two hour radio-show on NTS Live, playing music influencing his sound, the new album and over-all favourites. From Steve Reich to Moondog, Delia Derbyshire to Krzysztof Penderecki, Siouxsie & The Banshees to The Cure, this is a much recommended listen. Travelling with my family through Europe many years ago, I first ran into Andrew Pekler inside small record store somewhere in Germany. What better opportunity is there for a kid to avoid boring sightseeing to spend some hours digging for records? This is how I eventually got to know Andrew’s own music, from his involvement in several bands to his solo efforts as Sad Rockets and under his own name.
More than 15 years later, I still follow his activities on SoundCloud and occasionally catch one of his mixes on Dublab radio. Here’s one he recorded for the Skyapnea show on NTS Live.01. Andrew Pekler – Untitled

It’s been good to catch up on some mix shows lately, and I think there are a couple of stellar ones in this latest edition of weekend mixtapes.
Here’s a top 5 entry for best Hessle Audio shows of the year, as Ben UFO plays an exclusive recording by Terrence Dixon that nobody should miss, ranging from spaced out jazz to techno proper.
Mr Beatnick is joined by the rest of the Pride of Gombe pack on his NTS Radio show. Listen to 2 hours mixed b2b by Lukid, Samoyed, Astro:Dynamics, Kelpe, Adam Oko and the host of the show.
My favourite record of December turns out to be Hashman Deejay‘s debut album “Sandopolis”, released this week on the label Future Times. Had to check out some of his DJ mixes as well. Here’s one recorded at this year’s Dekmantel Festival.
What can I say, two hours of records selected by Floating Points and Four Tet, playing their recently found records from all over the world.
And lastly, dont’t miss out on the December edition of Funkineven‘s Apron show on NTS Live.
It’s been a good week (and month) for mixtapes, shall we start with our selection for the weekend?
Ben UFO’s and Pearson Sound’s show on Rinse FM is one of the few I make an effort to listen to on a regular basis. While I recommend tuning in every Thursday, let me highlight the show from August 8th (might go offline soon!)
To keep the uptempo vibes, check out another Boiler Room session from Nutriot Podcast contributor Gerry Read, who is about to release another of those fine 12-inches on Fourth Wave.
Following releases on Rush Hour and the Actress-operated Werkdiscs, check out Moiré‘s most excellent FACT mix from earlier this week.
Our Twitter followers might have noticed us going all crazy about the last Mr Beatnick radio show on NTS Live. He himself called it his best show all year, so make sure to take a good listen!
Los Angeles’ Julia Holter released her debut on Domino Records this week. On that occasion, she was asked to put to a very special mix called People Dreaming In Church.
And lastly, don’t sleep on Alexander Nut‘s show from last Saturday (PS: he’ll be live in about an hour or 12.00 GMT)
There’s a new album by Yosi Horikawa coming out on First Word later this month, so why not get yourself in the mood for that with his guestmix on Solid Steel?
More exciting music is headed our way from FaltyDL‘s new label Blueberry Recordings, his first signing Brrd inaugurates the label’s podcast series.
You might have caught Floating Points’ Summer 2013at45 Mix already, but there’s actually a second one that was aired on NTS Live earlier this week.
It seems, I forgot posting Dego‘s summer mixtape when it came out, another essential for you to download!
And lastly, Bristol’s Peverelist did a fine selection for the latest XLR8R podcast, showcasing a lot of music from his own vinyl-only label Livity Sound.
Okay, I’m in the middle of something and I’ll be gone for a couple of days. So, this will be a very quick rundown of mixtapes worth checking out this weekend.
– FaltyDL invited Loefah and Dego to play with him on NTS Live
– Kyle Hall B2B FunkinEven at the Boiler Room
