Analogue Monsta – Conversion Theory

It must have been about a year since work on the Analogue Monsta album has first been announced, now the duo of Suzi Analogue and Tokimonsta have completed Boom. I’m not sure what I expected from the project, but since I liked both artists’ solo efforts, I expected something better. The album clearly has its ups and downs and in my opinion it doesn’t get any better than the track above.

If you’re interested in hearing the rest of it, you can stream the Boom in its entirety on SoundCloud or download it for free from Scion A/V.

Moodymann – Picture This

Following last year’s free Omar S EP, Scion A/V teamed up with another Detroit legend: Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann. Sell-out or not, I will let you battle over this decision and leave you with the music.

01. 9 Nites 2 Nowhere
02. Basement Party
03. Saturday at the Rock
04. U Ranaway
05. Pray 4 Love
06. Hold It Down
07. Got 2 Make It
08. Got 2 Make It (Dub)

If this is your type of thing, you can download the music without having to own or buy a car from Scion!

April 18, 2012 Scion A/V also uploaded a video for one of the tracks off the EP

Omar S – Who’s In Key

You probably got yourself that free Omar S EP released by Scion A/V earlier this year. Now one of its tracks featuring Theo Parrish got a nice glitchy 8-bit video directed by Colin Devin Moore.

Just the kind of stuff I’m into, awakening memories of wasted days of childhood in front of my Commodore: beat ’em ups like Target Renegade, decrunchers, badly cracked games and their intros. Does anyone follow me?

Scion A/V interviews Onra

Almost forgot about this one: Scion A/V’s Blu Jemz talks to Onra about his musical influences and how some of them literally ended up on his album from last year, the wonderful Long Distance.

Onra will soon be touring through North America, check the dates on his MySpace page.

Scion A/V interviews Carl Craig

With Planet E turning 20 this year, I’m sure this isn’t the last post on Carl Craig to appear on this side. Here is a short interview in which the Detroit producer talks about his beginnings and how he started the label.

If you haven’t checked out Carl’ humorous take on bootlegs, you should do so now. There are currently five tracks you can download for free!

Scion A/V interviews Ikonika

Every now and then, the guys at Scion A/V get to interview some of my favourite artists. In one of their latest, they talk to Hyperdub’s very own Ikonika, who’s album Contact, Love, Want, Have will be remembered in many top 10 lists at the end of the year.

Scion A/V interviews The Gaslamp Killer

Scion A/V, who you might best known from their Blu Jemz compilation or their podcast series, have recently interviewed The Gaslamp Killer. He talks about where he comes from, how he got his name and what music influenced him.

Also have a look at the Scion channel on YouTube, you might be interested in interviews with Devo co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh, Bullion, Kode9 & Spaceape, The Juan Maclean or Martyn.

Waajeed – Tetris

If you didn’t get yourself a copy of Scion’s Blu Jemz compilation, then you missed one of the best compilations of the year. The CD-only release came out about half a year ago and features tracks from the likes of Flying Lotus, Mike Slott, Bullion, Dorian Concept and.. Waajeed!

L.A. Record is offering his track Tetris from the compilation for free download. Though I seriously think you should go for the whole package, it’s a great compilation (especially when you think it comes from a car company).
