Weekend Mixtapes

There are quite some mixtapes making the round lately and it’s all quality stuff from what I heard so far. So if you’re not following my Twitter stream, here’s a roundup of recommended mixes to get you into the weekend.

With her new EP out on Brainfeeder, Tokimonsta is currently on touring across Europe and the UK. And for those that can’t make it, she has put together the Analogue Monsta, the first of a two part mix series.

Rinse FM had two absolute killers this week, first a two hours set from Africa Hitech, who also announced their new single this week. And secondly it’s SBTRKT‘s new show, which is even better than the previous. Lot’s of exclusives, new remixes and tracks from his forthcoming debut album.

We got a bit concerned about Dabrye lately, haven’t we? Pulse Radio managed to pin down the man for an interview and even got the man doing his first official mixtape. You wouldn’t want to miss that!

More beats are coming by the man of Jay Scarlett, who is guest on Pixelatique‘s latest podcast. And Pete Concrete has made an exclusive mix for this year’s Oddstream Festival.

Towards the end, let’s go uptempo again with BNJMN‘s mini mix for SHOOK, the new Solid Steel with a guestmix from Jackmaster and lastly a mixtape by Brendon Moeller.

Have a nice weekend everybody!

Weekly Bits 32/2009

For Cubikmusik’s blog, Dominic Stanton wrote the guest post Under the influence with.. Domu in which he looks back at some of the records that shaped him musically. Also, Domu has been giving away some unfinished tracks on his own blog. Nothing outstanding maybe, but also nothing a true Domu fan would want to miss.

Kode9’s label Hyperdub is about to celebrate its fifth anniversary with a special set of 12-inches and a double CD. That means of course a bunch of exclusive tracks from the likes of Martyn, Flying Lotus, Joker & Ginz, Samiyam, Zomby and many more! Pre-orders can now be placed at Bleep.com!

The fifth installment of Low End Theory’s monthly podcast is now available and has been put together by Daddy Kev and Daedelus.

Bullion‘s second Mix Up In Love tape is also out now, for a tracklist I’ll link you to Orssi‘s blog.

I always realize how fast time goes by when there’s a new issue of SHOOK Magazine available. It happened again, the sixth edition is out now!

Whether you’re a mad sneaker collector or just enjoy nicely done animations, Sneakerized is one of those videos you don’t want to miss.

Weekly Bits 17/2009

My favourite mixtape this week comes from from Berlin’s Robot Koch, who is responsible for the second Brainfeeder Podcast. This sample-laden mix features a variety of styles from jazz to folk, afrofunk and some obscurities. Highly recommended!

Stones Throw is about to release a new single from soul-singer Mayer Hawthorne and for that occasion they’re giving away a free MP3 of Maybe So, Maybe No. Also, Mayer joined Gilles Peterson for a conversation on the all new Worldwide Podcast.

A new edition of Shook Magazine is finally out. Subscribers should have it in the mailbox by now, while the rest should be able to order a copy starting next week!

The book Designed by Machine was previously featured on this blog, but only now it is available from selected bookshops. I have spotted the book at Rush Hour, where you can conveniently order it by mail.

Let me also mention The Art of Partying from the Parra Soundsystem. This is a collection of re-edits from Tom Trago, Piet Parra and the rest of the team. I have some mixed feelings (ABBA?!) about this, but chances are there’s something in it for you! Plus it’s a free download.
