Kelpe – Bags Of Time (Neon Jung’s Wormhole Remix)

Just as I was about to feature the marvelous Neon Jung remix from the all new Kelpe release, a track I had the pleasure of hearing for a while now, XLR8R premiered this video for the tune. Like the previous live at home clips, this was filmed by Kel himself using his GoPro while travelling the world (I think I spotted Mr Beatnick for a second.)

The track is taken from the Bags of Time EP which came out earlier this week on Svetlana Industries.

October 6, 2012 To promote the new EP, Kelpe has done a guestmix for Solid Steel Radio!

Kelpe – I Felt Fuzzy Remixes

Kelpe - I Felt Fuzy Remixes

Svetlana Industries continues their series of free releases with a new one from Kelpe. When I Felt Fuzzy came out in April this year, it already came with a couple of remixes and this free EP contains a couple of more.

The remixes come from Scrase (probably my favourite in the bunch), Cupp Cave and Huess. I said free download, and you can grab that one over on Bandcamp.

Kelpe – I Felt Fuzzy

I had the pleasure of running into Kelpe twice this month, one time seeing him perform a stunning live set. He’s got a new EP out on Svetlana Industries and this is the video for its title track, directed by Jonathan Lieb.

You can pick up the I Felt Fuzzy 12-inch directly from the label or record stores such as Boomkat and Rush Hour. Digital buyers still have to wait a week to get the download.

Kelpe also contributed a mixtape for the Sonic Router podcast, as he did for us a while ago.

Update You can also hear a Kelpe guestmix on tonight’s New Jerusalem show!

Polyklinik – Good Evening

Hmm, I guess the fine people at Svetlana sent me the Polyklinik EP when it came out last October, but why did I never listen to it?

The video however is fairly new, directed by Shelf Index and the aesthetics are my kind of thing. Sorry for not mentioning the release earlier, but gladly you can still buy the digital over at Bandcamp!

Nightwave – Night Bird

We had Maya Medvesek on our radar since in her 8bitch days, enthralled by her raw, always daring productions. On her debut EP for the Svetlana label, reborn as Nightwave, she shows a remarkable growth in terms of quality, yet keeps her distinct girly touch on London underground music.

If you like what you hear, you can get the Feel EP on vinyl and digital from Svetlana’s Bandcamp.

BNJMN – 141

It’s been a while since the last Svetlana record came out, but now Serbia’s finest label is back with new music from BNJMN. Most people might associate this name with his brilliant debut on Rush Hour, but in fact BNJMN released on Svetlana before under the name of Jackhigh.

On 141 you get to hear “deep aquatic originals” plus two more remixes by Lukid and Kelpe to complete the package. Listen to the preview below.

01. One Sea
02. We Are The Weather
03. Inout
04. Hybridisation
05. One Sea (Lukid remix)
06. We are the weather (Kelpe remix)

You can already get the digital release from Svetlana’s Bandcamp page, but also from regular online retailers such as Bleep or Boomkat. The Kelpe remix is exclusively available from Boomkat at this moment, Bandcamp should follow next week.

The track above is one that didn’t make it on the release, instead you can download it as a free taster for the full release.

Weekly Bits 44/2010

Let’s sum up some the Twitter happenings this week, we haven’t done this in quite a while!

Nalden posted the trailer for the Influencers documentary a while ago, now the full film can be watched online. The only disappointment is its lengths, it runs for only 13 minutes.

Another documentary goes by the name of Jamdown, a thirty-year-old film on roots reggae by French director Emmanuel Bonn.

For Mochilla’s Mulatu Astatke show, British DJ and producer Quantic has put together a mixtape titled Music, Words, & Arrangements from Ethiopia. Mark de Clive-Lowe made a mix to promote his Church night in Los Angeles.

Serbian label Svetlana Industries teamed up with Kelpe to present their fifth shortcast on MixCloud. More podcasts come from Space Dimension Controller (for Resident Advisor) and Matthewdavid (for XLR8R).

The first release on Hoya:Hoya features music from Illum Sphere, Krystal Klear and Lone. Get your copy at Boomkat or Juno.

The SoundCloud guys had Andreya Triana in for an acoustic session, you can listen or watch here.

An incredible Google Map shows every record label in Detroit, past and present. More Detroit can be found in this magazine posted by Tresor Berlin.

Mixtape Monday #18

For the last week or so, I was hardly listening to anything else but that Theo Parrish Special on Benji B’s show. Listening to the iPlayer is more important than you might think, it’s a direct way to measure the popularity of a show – something that might in the end decide whether a show will be continued. In the case of last week’s show I did all I could, but now you can no longer listen to it. Unless you download a recording.

I have posted this old Dego mix for BTS some weeks ago, now it’s officially back in the archive. Not to be confused with his more recent guestmix, posted in February.

To give his all new 12-inch an extra push, former Bugz in the Attic man Seiji has posted a new mix. Available as stream and download.

The last Pete Concrete mix is only about a month old, but the Eat Concrete head already made another one. Get this exclusive Eat my Garbage mix for Nalden.

Fresh out of the Hoya:Hoya stable comes a mix by its co-founder and 2010 RBMA alumni Illum Sphere.

If you’re missing Lukid‘s sessions on Ustream, here’s a little compensation: for the all new Svetlana Industries shortcast he has put together a mix.

Rush Hour‘s Antal was visiting São Paulo for the Bienal and brought back some records you can listen to on Brasil Show part 1.

Lastly, here are two mixes from the Resident Advisor podcast. Last week they were graced by a dubstep-meets-techno mix by Kowton, this week they have a house mix by the trio of Detroit Beatdown.

Cover Artwork

We had a free compilation yesterday, today we’ll already give you another. This time it’s our favourite Serbian label Svetlana Industries providing a fine portfolio of their label roster.

As to be expected, the compilation features lots of talent from East European countries, such as Bulgaria’s 1000names, Croatia’s Josip Klobučar, Slovenian-born 8Bitch, Serbia’s Filtercutter or Russian duo Demokracy. Also included is music from Brainfeeder’s Teebs and plenty of other names I’m eager to discover.01. Demokracy – Starhaven
02. Prohor – Eye 1
03. Parallel Concept & KOCMOC – 5th Titan
04. Prohor – Eye 2
05. 1000names – Roket Loop ’94
06. Prohor – Eyebrow Divide
07. 8Bitch – In The Moog For Love
08. Prohor – Nose
09. Antstar – Thing Ten
10. Polyklinik – Blurred Photographs

12. Filtercutter – Den Piece
13. Prohor – Chin
14. Piece of Shh… – Desert Island
15. Prohor – Underchin
16. Jackhigh – Turbines
17. Josip Klobučar – Two and a half spoons of sugar please
18. Prohor – The Long and Slender Neck
19. Teebs – Everyone Alive Wants Answers

You can download all this for free over at BandCamp – starting tomorrow.

As this is a gapless release, Svetlana advises getting the iTunes version for full listening pleasure!

Teebs & Jackhigh – The Tropics Remixed

As follow-up to The Tropics EP from Teebs & Jackhigh, Serbian label Svetlana Industries is giving away two remixes as free download.

Zagreb based Josip Klobučar is responsible for one of the mixes, the second comes from Bulgaria’s Auditory Ossicles.

You can get this free EP via Svetlana on SoundCloud or, probably preferred, their BandCamp page.

Teebs & Jackhigh – The Tropics EP

The second release from Serbia’s Svetlana Industries brings together LA’s Teebs with Jackhigh from London, who worked on these seven tracks for the past 18 months.

If you’re into atmospheric sounds with a layer of subtle beats, this one is for you. Read what others think about it:

“Loads of atmosphere! & the artwork is sick!” – Floating Points

“nice one… been listening to the promo all evening… peace” – Dorian Concept

“Absolutely amazing” – Mary Anne Hobbs

You can buy The Tropics EP on vinyl at all good music stores, the digital release is available from Bandcamp. There you will also find a free download of the track Clutch.

If you’re in for something special, watch out for a limited hand-painted edition of the 12-inch.

Filtercutter – 1UP

Record Sleeve

You might remember Serbian label Svetlana Industries from the mixtape I mentioned last November.

As of tomorrow, their first 12-inch will be in stores. It comes from Bosnian producer Filtercutter and is backed by a remix from Hessel Audio head Ramadanman out of Bristol.

A. Filtercutter – 1UP
B. Filtercutter – 1UP (Ramadanman Refix)

You can listen to the original version on YouTube, here is a clip of the remix:

The 12-inch is already available from Boomkat and Juno, the digital release should be on the Svetlana shop real soon!

And in case you missed it the other day, Svetlana is also giving away a free remix from Filtercutter.

Mixtape Monday #6

My favourite mixtape from last week comes once again from Hotflush Recordings. For the fifth edition of their podcast, San Francisco based Jus Wan put together a nice selection of deep and dubby music. If you haven’t already, subscribe to the podcast!

Soulparlor, a trio of producers and DJs are also the hosts of Germany’s first address for broken beats and soulful vibes, the already legendary You Move Nothing If You Don’t Move Yourself night in Mainz. Only last Saturday, it was 2000black‘s Dego who blessed the place with his records. And following the recordings of Kaidi Tatham & Mark Force and Colonel Red, you can download two hours of Dego’s set.

Viral Radio’s latest show with Hudson Mohawke and Mamiko Motto just went online some minutes ago. Though I haven’t listened to it yet, I’m sure it’s one of the highlights this week. Make sure to check Viral Radio’s archive while you’re at it!  Hudson Mohawke’s mix from Benji B has also been spotted.

Another Dutch recording is the latest offering from The New Worck, who once again managed to get a mixtape from Rednose Distrikt’s very own Aardvarck (did you check his new album?)

One of the most interesting mixtapes was sent to me by Svetlana Industries, a new label based in Serbia. For an unusual and therefore exciting selection of dubstep and hip-hop beats, check out their first minimix.

Most fans of Theo Parrish certainly got his DJ set from The Do-Over already, otherwise I’m more than happy to mention it here.

For the jazz lovers I have one last mix today. Some of my Twitter followers called Blackclassical‘s anniversary mix the best jazz mix of all time. I will let you decide that for yourself.

Nov 12, 2009 Dego’s mix was recorded without permission and removed by request of the artist
