When it comes to football versus music, I guess I’ll take Dego‘s side and choose the world’s finest sport. But as I haven’t posted any mixes lately, I wanted to give you an update on those anyway.
I meant to post those Waajeed beat tapes, but as they weren’t embeddable I never did. If you haven’t heard them elsewhere by now, you can find parts one and two on his SoundCloud page.
Remember those days when Mr Beatnick played records on Ustream once a week? I really miss those! This month there’s no reason to complain, as the London-based producer did a guestmix for Hyponik and another on for i-D magazine.
We haven’t heard from Waajeed for a while, but the Detroit-based producer relaunched his Bling47 website with a couple of videos worth checking out. Another good read can be found on Egotripland.com, who talked to Waajeed about his favourite Dilla samples.
I’m sure there has been a lot more. If you came across something worth mentioning, feel free to leave a comment.
If you didn’t get yourself a copy of Scion’s Blu Jemz compilation, then you missed one of the best compilations of the year. The CD-only release came out about half a year ago and features tracks from the likes of Flying Lotus, Mike Slott, Bullion, Dorian Concept and.. Waajeed!
L.A. Record is offering his track Tetris from the compilation for free download. Though I seriously think you should go for the whole package, it’s a great compilation (especially when you think it comes from a car company).
Oct 8, 2009 Forgot to mention, you can stream the entire compilation on last.fm
The third edition of the Low End Theory Podcast is now available for download, featuring Gaslamp Killer and Ras G on the decks. Gaslamp Killer is currently touring in support for Flying Lotus, there are still some chances to catch them live.
Another mixtape comes from Rednose Distrikt‘s Aardvarck. In fact, this has been around for a while already, but Crazy Birds brought it to my attention.
After 14 editions already, the Deviation Sessions celebrated with a Christmas Special yesterday night at the Gramaphone in London. As a special thank-you to all supporters, you can now download all available recordings from the club. Included are mixes from IG Culture, Rich Medina, Morgan Zarate, Waajeed and others.
