Every now and then I feel the need to post something not (or not entirely) related to music, like this short documentary from Simon Cottee. That’s because I not only love those 8-bit retro sounds, but also the visual aesthetics of old computer games.
Among the interviewees are game-designer Jason Rohrer, animator Joe Brunn and musician Dot.AY, each of them trying to explain their fascination for pixel art (and chiptunes) and giving a brief history lesson.
Apart from video games you get to see a couple of amazing pixel art animations, including classics like Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006, Truckers Delight, Dan the Man, or that recent Pixels video. If you don’t know them, give them a try!
